Join OC Health Psychologists

We are a thriving group practice specializing in clinical health psychology with the vision of being innovative trail blazers in new models of integrated health care. We are looking for clinical health psychologists, psychiatrists, or other mental health professionals to join our growing group practice in Orange County, California.

In this era of health care reform, American Psychological Association (APA) has provided the leadership to expand the role of psychologists in advancing health and well-being, to be an active participant in new models of integrated care, and in the development of alternative practice models, such as OCHP. Through health care reform, we are seeing psychologists take a key role in the new Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of the Affordable Care Act, which provides a unique and timely opportunity for integrating physical heath and behavioral health care. Paradigm shifts in medicine from the biomedical model to the biopsychosocial model are moving US health care from provider-centered care, with its focus on biological aspects of disease, to patient-centered care characterized by addressing all of a patient's needs - both medical and psychological. We strive to be a part of that change.

Most of us are well trained in treating patients from a systems perspective or a psychosocial lens. However, we are often not as familiar with treating the patient from a biopsychosocial  perspective. In many medical schools and residency programs, the promoted perspective is now the biopsychosocial model and, along with our medical colleagues, OCHP advances the same model through mentoring and training support for our group providers. If you are committed and passionate about our field, devoted to patient care and healing, and willing to embark on a plan to develop competencies as a clinical health psychologist or therapist, we want to hear from you. Of course, if you are already credentialed as a clinical health psychologist, all the better!

We have openings for clinical health psychologists, or other mental health professionals, with specializations in disciplines listed below:

Doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD or PsyD) required with specialization in clinical health psychology preferred. Postdoctoral specialization and training in a health psychology sub-specialty preferred. However, opportunities exist for assistance in developing and completing a structured course of study in one of these specialty areas depending on prior background, experience and interests. In sub-specialties where APA has developed core competencies, such as the Pike’s Peak model in geropsychology, assistance in developing these competencies will be provided with the expectation that APA guidelines will be met.

Willing to consider MFT or LCSW with specialized certification, experience and/or a background in health care.

Open Positions

Clinical Psychologist; Psycho-gastroenterologist

Full or Part-time

Orange County Health Psychologists seeks a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in psycho-gastroenterology or an interest in completing a fellowship to acquire the skills and competencies in this important specialty. You will see patients referred by their gastroenterologist physician for disorders related to gastrointestinal disorders and impacted by the brain-gut axis such as irritable bowel syndrome. Our providers see patients for a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma and more, but they also specialize in multiple areas of clinical heath psychology.

Our well-regarded, thriving group practice has much to offer; a consistent referral base, stable business infrastructure; administrative support; peer consultation; a large managed care contract; and a beautifully appointed office suite in the Irvine Spectrum area of Orange County, CA. Additionally, we have satellite offices in Newport Beach and Orange.

We are a group practice of 20+ dedicated clinicians: each with a specialty in clinical health psychology or in specific diagnoses or modalities. This contributes to significant cross referrals and a highly collaborative model including an emphasis on collaboration with our physician colleagues. Our approach is holistic, using integrated interventions that focus on mind, body and spiritual health and wellness.

This is a good opportunity for a psychologist who enjoys both the advantages of private practice and the collegiality, referral stream, administrative support, and infrastructure of a group practice. Our compensation plan is more generous than most and we offer medical and dental benefits to full-time W-2 providers.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree from an APA accredited program in clinical psychology
  • Preference given to candidates with relevant experience in a health care setting and completion of a health psychology track in their doctoral program
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience (including pre-doctoral internships)
  • California licensure
  • Passion for excellence in patient care using evidence-based interventions
  • Commitment to see a minimum of 15 patients per week and with no other private practice commitments
  • Flexibility with a hybrid delivery model requiring at least one day in the office; either seeing patients via telehealth or in-person. Additional days in the office are welcomed.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a psychologist who understands today’s relevance of collaborative, integrated care and practicing from a health and wellness model and not a disease model. Interested candidates, please submit a cover letter and CV addressed to Dr. Kristin Kleppe, at

Literature Review and Research

Our psychologists and therapists value the importance of reviewing the literature research in working with our patients who have a chronic health condition. For example, if we start treating a patient for depression and anxiety, and the patient has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), we conduct a thorough lit review on the connection between EDS and depression/anxiety to formulate a treatment plan. Internship opportunities exist for assisting with this research on existing literature.
