In individual therapy, you will work one-on-one with a therapist towards goals such as symptom reduction or personal development. This is a self-reflective process that involves the exploration of your behaviors and emotions, so building trust and rapport with your therapist is important. Individual therapy may encompass many different evidence-based treatment styles such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Inter-Personal Therapy (IPT).
You are not alone – tens of millions of people in the United States struggle with their mental health. Our providers at OC Health Psychologists can offer you a wide variety of therapeutic treatments for many DSM-5 diagnostic disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, addiction, eating disorders, and personality disorders. We can also help with meeting your personal goals towards a happier, healthier, and more meaningful life.
In couples therapy, our providers offer a safe, non-judgmental, therapeutic environment for you and your spouse or partner to identify both the challenges and the goals in your relationship, while supporting the shifts necessary to navigate healing of relationship wounds. Keeping your needs and well-being as the top priority, we draw from many different evidence-based modalities including Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Developmental Models, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Inter-Generational Therapy.
In this type of therapy, our providers help you uncover the underlying causes of distress in your relationship, shift negative patterns of behavior and communication to new positive patterns, and co-create fulfilling intimate relationships and/or let go of unfulfilling ones. Our providers at OC Health Psychologists are available to help you heal emotional relationship wounds and start your journey toward a happier life and healthier relationships.
Family therapy is for all of the members of a family who are affected by major life changes and stressors such as divorce, grief, loss, addiction or illness. It can also be proactive – for example, a newly blended or adoptive family, seeking to form good communication habits, may attend family therapy for the sake of their children’s future well-being.
This type of therapy explores the dynamics of relationships between family members and the way in which the family operates to discover how to most effectively work towards shared goals and heal relationship wounds. Whether your family is struggling with life changes or just looking to prevent problems down the road, our family therapy providers at Orange County Health Psychologists are here and ready to help.
Group therapy is for a specific group of people who share both a common challenge and a common goal. The group is led by a qualified therapist. This type of therapy can help you develop communication and socialization skills, learn how to express your issues, and achieve shared therapy goals and objectives. With group therapy, you can develop better self-awareness by listening to and empathizing with others who have similar issues while benefiting from the support of those with a shared experience.
Therapy groups are formed based on community interest and need; for example, our Wise Older Women Group is a group of women 65+. This group uses positive psychology to focus on healthy aging and achieving an overall sense of well-being. If you are interested in a particular type of group therapy, please discuss it with your provider at Orange County Health Psychologists.
Health & Wellness Counseling
Health and wellness counseling is a type of therapy that helps provide you with the tools and motivation needed to reach your physical, mental and emotional health goals. With this type of therapy, you’ll explore things such as better nutrition, solutions for sleep challenges and mindfulness practices such as yoga and meditation. Health and wellness counseling can also help you manage a chronic disease or illness such as diabetes or minimize your risk of diseases such as dementia.
As a core aspect of integrated care – incorporating the body, mind and spirit – health and wellness counseling is an integral part of the holistic therapeutic process. Our providers at Orange County Health Psychologists can work with you to find the tools and motivation you need to improve your overall well-being.
Virtual Reality Therapy
Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) is used to treat most anxiety disorders including social anxiety, OCD, trauma, eating disorders, addictions, and phobias. It’s best known for effectively treating specific phobias such as a fear of needles, driving, airplanes, elevators, and social situations such as public speaking. VRT can also be used to improve coping strategies for people with ADHD or other attention disorders. VRT is appropriate for all ages, but is especially effective with children and teens to help reduce fears surrounding school, exams, perfectionistic ways of thinking, and social situations.
We use over 140 virtual reality environments and the latest technology in Next-Gen VR headsets for a totally immersive experience that reproduces real life scenarios. In this distraction-free, immersive experience, we also use traditional interventions such as exposure therapy, CBT, EMDR, systematic desensitization, mindfulness mediation, biofeedback, and other evidence-based therapies. VRT can take place in the therapy office with the provider’s equipment as well as via telehealth with the purchase of an inexpensive VR headset that the patient can keep at home and use between sessions.
Children & Teens
Children and teens can be just as affected by major life changes and stressors as anyone else in the family. Big life transitions such as divorce, grief from loss of a family member, addictions and illness are just some of the reasons young people may benefit from therapy. For many young people, social stressors—especially from social media in the form of bullying and peer pressure—can also negatively impact their mental health and should be addressed as soon as possible.
If a child is struggling with a suspected learning disability or disorder, getting a proper diagnosis can give parents the understanding needed to help their children at home as well as access to the right support in the school system—so their children can begin to thrive. Research has shown that early intervention is the key to giving children the best chance for a positive outcome, so please don’t delay getting help if you need it.
Whether you’re seeking therapeutic help or a diagnosis for your child of age 10 or older, Orange County Health Psychologists can provide pediatric therapy as well as testing and assessments for many types of disabilities and disorders.
Older Adults 65+
Adults 65 and older experience significant challenges and stressors. This period of life is one of tremendous change, and can include declining physical health, financial difficulties, retirement, or grief and loss. It can also be a time of spiritual reflection—examining the meaning and purpose of life and exploring how to make older adulthood the most rewarding. Geropsychology is a type of therapy focused on adults 65+, and its purpose is to help older patients and their families to maintain a sense of well-being, overcome problems, and achieve their maximum potential. Geropsychologists can also help with assessing memory and other cognitive changes, home safety, and recommending changes to benefit patients and their families.
In addition to individual therapy for those 65+, we also have a Wise Older Women therapy group, composed of older women seeking a greater sense of happiness and well-being. This group uses the research in positive psychology to focus on healthy aging and achieving physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
If you are 65+ and are struggling with the challenges of managing the unique age-related changes and stressors in your life, Orange County Health Psychologists can help you.
Testing & Assessment
If you suspect that you or your family member may have a mental health disorder, the right diagnosis can be crucial in determining the most effective treatment(s). To diagnose correctly, a therapist or psychologist will do an assessment or test with you to see whether your symptoms or behaviors match the criteria for the suspected disorder. Assessments can be done for a wide range of conditions such as ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, bipolar disorder, personality disorders and a variety of other neuropsychological issues, including mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Your doctor may also require you to have a mental health assessment before performing certain types of surgeries – for example, organ transplants, bariatric surgery or gender affirmation surgery.
At Orange County Health Psychologists, we can provide any type of psychological or psychiatric testing you require, including pre-surgery assessments. Contact us today for more information.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories, complicated grief, eating disorders, addiction, stress reduction and more. A therapist will walk you through the traumatic event while simultaneously directing your attention to a moving light, tapping sounds or tones. Using EMDR, your brain can be “retrained” to experience the memory without an emotional response (which can be debilitating). This will help you cultivate healthier beliefs about yourself as well.
EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy approach that has helped over an estimated two million people of all ages alleviate many types of psychological distress. If you are interested in learning more about how EMDR can improve your symptoms, contact us to explore this highly effective form of therapy with one of our providers at OC Health Psychologists.

Telehealth—also known as online therapy or e-therapy—simply means having your therapy session over the internet. Most often, your therapist will speak with you over a computer, tablet or smartphone using an app or website. Support through online counseling can be much more flexible than traditional therapy, allowing you to fit sessions into your daily lifestyle with less stress. Currently, both Medicare and Medicaid cover online counseling via Doxy.me and Zoom. Coverage from other insurance providers varies widely, so you’ll need to do some investigating to find out if you have coverage. Be sure to ask your insurance provider whether they require pre-authorization.
Several studies have shown that online counseling is just as effective as in-person therapy. Not only that, but online counseling gives you access to provider specialists that you may not have considered before because of distance. At Orange County Health Psychologists, our providers specialize in many areas. Whether you’re looking for someone to help you with a sleep disorder, addiction, marital conflict, caregiver stress, PTSD, anxiety/depression, grief, or any other mental health issue, we have a skilled and knowledgeable provider to meet your specific needs—online.
