Rogelio Serrano, PsyD

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Serrano focuses on integrating psychology, wellness, culture, and interpersonal relationships to build a unique and tailored approach to therapy. His clinical experience spans over two decades within a variety of clinical settings including community health, hospital/acute care, government/forensic, and private practice. Dr. Serrano uses a combination of traditional psychological approaches (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Family Systems Therapy) combined with distinct wellness strategies (healthy aging, social psychology, neurobiology) to help his clients overcome the challenges brought on by trauma, divorce, grief, depression and various life transitions. His treatment approach begins with conducting a comprehensive evaluation and designing an individualized treatment plan to meet the unique needs and goals of each client. As a bicultural and bilingual practitioner, Dr. Serrano offers services in both English and Spanish based on client preference.

Education & Experience

Dr. Serrano holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University where he specialized in treatment of men’s issues and domestic violence prevention. His previous clinical experience has been working within the Department of Justice, Veterans Administration, and various community mental health sectors. Dr. Serrano holds dual licenses as a Clinical Psychologist and a Marriage and Family Therapist. He also serves as adjunct faculty at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology and lectures at California State University, Fullerton. He has specialized experience working in the areas of trauma recovery, substance abuse, masculinity and aging, domestic violence, couples counseling, risk assessment and multicultural therapy.

Dr. Serrano has been an invited speaker in local, regional, and national forums on a variety of topics including domestic violence, risk assessment, anger management, play therapy, and Latino masculinity. He has also provided consultation and training for government, non-profit and private organizations on issues related to masculinity and aging, anger management, crisis management, child abuse, recovery from trauma, play therapy, multicultural therapy, and forensic risk assessment.
