Alexander Peterkin, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Alexander Peterkin believes that therapy is a powerful space for personal growth and self-discovery. Rooted in a deeply compassionate, person-centered approach based on the works of Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow, Dr. Peterkin blends insight-driven psychotherapy with action-oriented tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. He believes the role of therapy is to provide a space for patients to learn who they are and how they can be their best self.

Dr. Peterkin aims to support his patients’ personal growth by helping them to identify any needs that are not currently being met and overcoming barriers to their personal goals. He strives to build a relationship of trust and understanding with his patients, finding unique solutions to each patient’s personal challenges. His therapeutic style works best for patients who feel stuck and are seeking practical, collaborative guidance on how to achieve their own solutions and reclaim a sense of wellbeing in their daily lives.

As a specialist in men’s mental health, Dr. Peterkin understands the diverse and complex challenges men face on their path to wellness. He offers dedicated support for issues that are often difficult to talk about, including loneliness, relationship struggles, anger management, grief, body image concerns, and the stigma of seeking therapy. Dr. Peterkin’s therapeutic style works well with other men, helping to empower his patients to make significant, positive transformations and improve overall well-being.

Dr. Peterkin also brings extensive expertise to adults managing ADHD. Rather than focusing solely on the diagnosis, he guides and supports his patients to focus on real-life solutions such as designing and maintaining realistic schedules, building helpful daily routines, minimizing distractions, and strengthening the focus and concentration needed to reach their goals.

Education & Experience

Dr. Peterkin earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University, his master’s degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University, and his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining the OCHP team, Dr. Peterkin served as a Licensed Clinician Contractor with Kaiser Permanente. In addition to clinical psychotherapy, his diverse clinical background includes neuropsychological testing, county Medi-Cal treatment, and the mentorship and supervision of psychology trainees.
