Azita Agahi, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Azita Agahi is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 14 years of experience. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Systemic Therapy with an emphasis on biopsychosocial factors to help treat depression, anxiety, and mood and/or personality conditions, as well as those with a dual diagnosis of mental health and addiction struggles. She provides personalized and trauma-based treatment plans for individuals, couples, and families, and has extensive expertise treating children, adolescents, young adults, and their families.
Dr. Agahi is committed to helping her clients process and express their emotions in a healthy way to gain power, control, and insight into any cognitive distortions, identify and reduce ineffective defense mechanisms, and reach their unique treatment goals. She has a vast array of tools and resources to help her clients heal and live their best life.
As a multicultural and quadrilingual (English, Farsi, Azeri, Turkish) Psychologist Dr. Agahi offers therapy services in English, Farsi, and Azeri.
Education & Experience
Dr. Agahi earned her Doctoral degree in Psychology from Alliant International University, Irvine Campus, where she also completed a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her Doctoral Dissertation on “The Effects of Different Parenting Styles on Children’s Behavioral Development Through Adolescence” earned her a scholarship to attend the 2016 AFTA Annual Meeting & Open Conference in Denver for presentation of her Doctoral Dissertation Study.
Dr. Agahi received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with Minor in Biology/Science from the University of California Riverside (UCR). While at UCR, she was awarded a mini-grant to work as a research assistant on a study of “The Effects of Parenting Style on Children’s Behavior who are Diagnosed with ADHD.” She was also invited to attend the UCLA Annual Psychologists Conference for poster presentation of another brief research study on “The Effects of Level of Self-Esteem on Relationship Satisfaction in Women.”
In addition to her experience in private practice settings, Dr. Agahi’s professional experience also includes both government-funded and private dual-diagnosis treatment/recovery programs in residential settings.
